Miller Systems implemented an enterprise portal for its client Altus Pharmaceuticals, a leader in the development of novel protein therapies to treat chronic gastrointestinal and metabolic diseases. Using Plumtree Software’s Enterprise Web solution, Miller Systems designed and implemented an enterprise portal that enabled Altus Pharmaceuticals to present and personalize content and data securely from across the enterprise to its employees. Based in Cambridge, MA, Altus Pharmaceuticals is a privately held pharmaceutical company developing a number of different drugs, one of which, TheraCLEC, is in Phase II clinical trials for treatment of malabsorption due to pancreatic insufficiency.

Altus uses a number of mission critical systems for knowledge management, clinical trial management, business process workflow, accounting, and CRM, in addition to other standard business technologies such as file servers and groupware. With so many systems required to run the business, the ability to access the most important elements of data, content, and reports from disparate systems—often with unique logins, passwords, user interfaces, and experiences—became time consuming and cumbersome on a daily basis. Altus recognized that implementing an enterprise portal would be necessary to scale as the company, its product portfolio, and its business grew. After evaluating several different enterprise portal software offerings, Altus turned to Miller Systems to define and implement a pilot enterprise portal using solutions from enterprise web leader Plumtree Software.

Miller Systems worked closely with Altus to design and document the framework for the portal, including authentication, personalization, and presentation, selecting important user experiences and compiling a detailed inventory of all the content, data, and applications to be included in the portal. Numerous "out of the box" features for content management and collaboration were easily implemented in the portal, and other applications, like an employee directory and integration with Altus' CRM required custom portlet development, which was built using Microsoft's .NET framework.
By combining over ten years of web design and development experience with extensive Plumtree-specific expertise, Miller Systems was able to deliver a secure, seamless, and personalized Altus-branded user experience. The Altus portal will now allow different communities within the employee population to derive quick and easy value from existing systems and collaborate in ways they never could before. Leveraging Plumtree’s Enterprise Web solution, Miller Systems successfully integrated homegrown, proprietary, and industry-standard core systems in an extensible portal framework.
