Overview:

Miller Systems, a leading Web Development and IT consulting firm located in Boston's Back Bay, is seeking candidates for an IT Consultant specializing in desktop support with a particular emphasis on support and troubleshooting on Mac OSX (10.4+).

Duties/Responsibilities:

The candidate chosen for this position will spend the majority of their time providing on-site consulting services for our clients. Duties consist primarily of typical day-to-day help desk activities, including the set up and deployment of new computers to client users, troubleshooting and diagnosis of technical problems, the upkeep of support tickets and documentation, etc. While the candidate will have a specialization in Mac support, his/her duties will include desktop support of Microsoft Windows desktops as well. Support of core applications on both platforms, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and others, is critical in addition to the Operating System itself.

This position will draw on the candidate's soft skills in communication and client management, and is ideal for a highly motivated person who genuinely enjoys helping others and solving technical problems. The candidate must be organized and able to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision. As this position is constantly client-facing, a high degree of professionalism is absolutely required.

Major Responsibilities/Requirements:

Education and Career Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of Help Desk experience in a Mac OS or heterogeneous Mac/Windows environment
  • Associate's degree from a two-year college or university or equivalent combination of training, education and experience

Technology Skills and Experience

  • Advanced skills and demonstrable experience in Mac OS X and Apple hardware, including:
  • System setup
  • Troubleshooting
  • Command-line tools
  • Permissions
  • Preventative maintenance
  • Networking
  • Solid knowledge and experience performing basic troubleshooting and configuration of Windows desktop operating systems (XP, Vista, Windows 7)
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office  particularly in the use and troubleshooting of Outlook and Entourage
  • Experience supporting remote users and their unique needs such as email access while offline and VPN troubleshooting
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of TCP/IP on both Ethernet and wireless networks. You will have set up a home network and understand basic TCP/IP command line utilities

Any of the following will push candidates to the top of the list:

  • Mac OSX Server administration experience
  • Experience managing group-deployments of Mac workstations
  • Experience setting up and supporting PDAs like BlackBerry, iPhone, and Windows Mobile devices
  • Any recent Microsoft desktop OS certification
  • Additional networking experience, or experience with Cisco firewalls such as the PIX and ASA
  • Advanced or Expert level user of Microsoft Office (2007 or 2008)
  • A thoughtful cover letter
