Quality and Project Coordinator

Overview:

Miller Systems, a leading Web Development and IT Consulting firm located in the heart of Boston, a stone's throw from the historic North End and the Boston Garden, is seeking candidates to assist our award-winning Web Development team with quality management and project coordination. This full time employee will work in a fast paced environment, focusing on client communications, assisting with daily project management tasks, and taking a primary role in quality assurance and testing for our user experience oriented development projects.

The ideal candidate will be focused on advancing their career in the User Experience/Web Development field. The role requires a strong interest in the field, excellent interpersonal skills, along with some or all of the following skills:

Major Responsibilities/Requirements:

  • "Power User" qualities; expertise using the web for transactions and research

  • Basic level proficiency in Microsoft Office 2003 or 2007, in particular Microsoft Excel
Candidates possessing the following will have an advantage (candidates without the following are still strongly encouraged to apply):
  • An undergraduate level education in Communications, English, or Business with a marketing concentration
  • Any project management experience or demonstrated understanding of basic project management methodologies
  • Experience testing web sites or interactive software, including creating and executing test plans
  • Experience with QA tools and/or web monitoring applications
  • Any web analytics experience (WebTrends, Omniture, Google Analytics, etc.)
  • Basic web development skills (HTML, CSS)

Web Development Engineer

Overview:

Miller Systems is seeking candidates for a Web Development Engineer. The right candidate will spend their majority of time programming and supporting browser based applications, business objects, and databases for our growing client base from our office in Boston. The work will include maintenance and extension of some existing applications as well as ground-up development for new projects, including public web sites, integration with CMS, and portal related development projects.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, organized, and able to work effectively with minimal supervision. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential, and a minimum of 2 years experience in the web development space is required:

Major Responsibilities/Requirements:

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience building and maintaining web applications
  • Demonstrated proficiency in either .NET or Java development (.NET experience is preferred)
  • Expertise may be in C#, Java, VB.NET, and/or other technologies; the key is to have a strong programming background and an open mind about new technologies.
  • Ability to extend beyond the basics and write modular, reusable, scalable code Standard code and website management skills, including a good understanding of version control (CVS, SVN, SourceSafe, etc.).
  • Experience with multi-tier (dev/staging/production) environments - and respect for the disciplines and concepts behind them
  • Basic web server (IIS, Apache) configuration/management experience
  • Must have a solid grasp of object oriented concepts and best practices.
  • Must have proficiency in presentation layer development including expert knowledge in HTML, JavaScript, and XML.

Any of the following will push candidates to the top of the list:

  • A degree in Computer Science or Mathematics
  • Demonstrated experience developing in Microsoft SharePoint 2007 or 2010 (WebParts, Web Services, etc.)
  • Any CMS implementation experience with commercial or open-source frameworks, particularly in a personalization context
  • The ability to write solid Transact SQL; general DBA experience with MS SQL Server.
  • Recent web analytics experience with current tools (Google Analytics, WebTrends, Omniture, etc. )
  • Experience with standard BI tools (BusinessObjects, Cognos, MicroStrategy, SAP, etc.)

UI Engineer/Information Architect

Overview:

Miller Systems is seeking candidates for a Senior Web Developer with a focus on presentation layer development and information architecture. This full time employee will work in a fast paced environment providing solutions as a member of our Website development team from our office in the heart of Boston, a stone's throw from the historic North End and the Boston Garden.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, be highly motivated, organized, and able to work effectively with teams. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential, and at least two to three years of true web development experience is required (No WYSIWYG web designers, please). Additionally, some or all of the following technical skills are required:

Major Responsibilities/Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in User Experience Design and Information Architecture. Proficiency in Microsoft Visio is a must-have.
  • At least three solid years of experience designing and maintaining web sites and content templates. Advanced JavaScript coding skills, DHTML, XML, and advanced HTML skills (style sheets, frames, tables, layers, etc.) are required.
  • Server side scripting skills (ASP.NET, JSP, ASP Classic, CF, etc.)
  • Familiarity/competence with configuring and deploying sites using at least one enterprise- class Content Management System (ex: RedDot, Vignette, Interwoven, Documentum, Stellant, Microsoft, FatWire, PaperThin, etc).
  • A comprehensive understanding of Web browsers (IE, Firefox,etc.), the different platforms they run on, and the importance of the differences and compatibility between them. A mastery of W3C standards such as the Document Object Model is required.
  • Good general design and layout skills
  • Proficiency in Adobe PhotoShop for production purposes; visual design skills are a plus but not required.

Web UI Engineer

Overview:

Miller Systems is seeking candidates for a Senior Web Developer with intense focus on advanced presentation layer technologies. This full time employee will work in a fast paced environment providing solutions as a key member of our Website development team from our office in the heart of Boston, a stone's throw from the historic North End and the Boston Garden.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, be highly motivated, organized, and able to work effectively with teams. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential, and at least two to three years of true web development experience is required (No WYSIWYG web designers, please). Additionally, some or all of the following technical skills are required:

Major Responsibilities/Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Adobe PhotoShop for production purposes; creative design skills are a plus but not required.
  • Information Architecture/content mapping experience (even if it’s been for small sites)
  • A super-sharp eye for content and superior verbal skills.
  • Standard website management skills, including a good understanding of revision control, FTP, and standard techniques for keeping content intact during updates.

Sr. Web Development Engineer

  • Stong knowledge of Cold Fusion, CF best practices, and coding standards. The ability to maintain existing CF code and extend its functionality is a must.
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft’s .NET framework. Must be able to extend beyond the basics of ASP.NET and build modular, reusable, scalable code.
  • A good working knowledge of object oriented programming. Expertise may be in C#, Java, or C++.
  • Must have a solid grasp of object oriented concepts and best practices. Good knowledge of additional server side scripting languages beyond Cold Fusion is required. This expertise may lie in JSP, PHP, Perl, Classic ASP, etc.
  • The ability to write solid Transact SQL and general DBA experience with MS SQL Server. Oracle experience is a plus.
  • Expert knowledge in HTML and JavaScript is essential
  • Good working knowledge of Unix and Windows XP/2000/NT environments is critical

Senior Web Designer

Overview:

Miller Systems is currently seeking candidates for a Senior Web Designer. This full time employee will work in a fast paced environment providing solutions as a key member in the creative division of our Web development team.

The right candidate will spend the majority of time concepting, designing, and executing logo/branding identity materials, illustrations, web sites, and Macromedia Flash animation components from our office in Boston.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or equivalent experience, be highly motivated, organized, and able to work effectively independently and with teams. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential, and at least two years of Macromedia Flash authoring and a minimum of three years of professional web design are required. Additionally, some or all of the following skills are required:

Major Responsibilities/Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe ImageReady, Adobe Illustrator, Quark Xpress, and other standard graphics applications. Some print experience (min. 1 year) required.
  • Demonstrated experience (minimum two years) in Macromedia Flash authoring. Portfolio examples a must.
  • Ability to execute basic homepage designs in simple HTML (this is not a production position).
  • Ability to extend existing brand materials.
  • Excellent design fundamentals and layout skills; you need to have developed and refined multi-layered web sites.
  • Understanding of animation and audio
  • A super-sharp eye for content and superior verbal skills.
  • Standard design management skills, including a good understanding of revision control and design refinement.
  • A comprehensive understanding of design challenges for the web (bandwidth limitations, browser compatibility, etc.).
  • Experience extracting design from Quark Xpress, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
