Microsoft System Administrator

Overview:

This full time employee will act as a practice leader in the Microsoft arena, working on key projects across our entire practice. This position is an excellent opportunity for an individual with solid infrastructure and project management skills to work on an exciting variety of projects.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as the practice leader/“go-to” resource on the team for Microsoft server technologies
  • Working with clients to translate business goals into strategic technical solutions and plans
  • Performing best practice audits within Microsoft architecture, server, and security contexts
  • Providing process guidance and server side support for projects like: desktop and server operating system rollouts; server upgrades and/or migrations; virtualization initiatives; data protection/disaster recovery planning, and the like
  • Acting as a Tier 2/3 resource to desktop support specialists
  • Evaluating new hardware and software solutions from existing and potential new partners

Major Responsibilities/Requirements:

Skills and Experience Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 5 years supporting mid-sized networks. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are essential, as is experience supporting a blend of end-users and IT Professionals. Reliable transportation is required.

Microsoft Specific:

  • Certification as a MCITP on Windows Server 2012, 2008 (either Enterprise or Server Administrator) or Windows Server 2003 MSCE. Current certifications are strongly preferred. Candidates with pre- Windows 2008 certificates and recent re-certification will be at the top of our list.
  • High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Active Directory. Experience designing, upgrading, migrating and managing AD domains; designing and implementing Group Policy; DNS integration; managing multiple sites, establishing trusts in various domain forest configurations.
  • Microsoft Exchange administration and deployment experience. Candidates with experience managing distributed sites are preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in recent versions of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Experience documenting and diagramming with Visio/PowerPoint
  • Experience supporting end-user client operating systems (Windows XP/Vista/Windows 7/8).

General IT Experience:

  • Strong foundational TCP/IP (v4) network competencies are essential
  • General configuration and troubleshooting of TCP/IP networks, DNS, SMTP servers, and web servers
  • Hands-on experience integrating Microsoft servers with one or more modern storage solutions (SAN, NAS)
  • Experience with at least one server virtualization platform (VMWare, Hyper-V, or Citrix XenServer
  • Experience with at least one mobile device management platform (BlackBerry Enterprise Server, MaaS360,etc.)
  • Experience managing (and/or implementing) one or more mid to large scale monitoring and alerting solutions (e.g., Nagios, Tivoli, Spiceworks, HP OpenView, WhatsUpGold, etc.)
  • Experience/expertise in at least two different industry standard backup / data protection solutions. Experience with hybrid local and cloud/vault based solutions is strongly preferred.
  • General experience and proficiency with one or more modern Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware/Anti-Spyware tools

The following skills and/or experience are not required, but are considered “pluses”:

  • Previous experience at a Managed Services Provider
  • Experience deploying, administering, and/or supporting Microsoft SharePoint 2007/2010/2013
  • Hands-on experience implementing Microsoft Cloud Services, including Azure, Office 365/ BPOS, InTune, etc.
  • Hands-on experience implementing ADFS
  • Experience designing and/or administering web hosting environments
  • Experience implementing any MSP Suite (e.g., Kaseya, ConnectWise, etc.)
  • Any networking certifications (Cisco preferred)

Mac OS Desktop Admin / Support Specialist

Overview:

Miller Systems, a leading Managed IT Services firm located in the heart of Boston, is seeking candidates for an IT Consultant to join our growing team. The successful candidate will specialize in Mac OSX (10.4+) desktop system administration and end user support.

Duties/Responsibilities: The candidate chosen for this position will perform desktop system administration duties along with help desk assistance and training to end users. Duties are performed both in person and remotely. Typical activities include:

  • Creating, updating, and deploying Mac OS systems using imaging / deployment tools
  • Performing audits on deployed systems for compliance with security and reliability standards
  • Participating in the design and implementation of Mac OS enterprise integration projects (in Microsoft / Active Directory centric environments)
  • Maintaining Mac OS desktop systems
  • Handling end user requests for assistance
  • Keeping support tickets and documentation up to date

Major Responsibilities/Requirements:

Education and Career Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years help desk experience in a Mac OS or heterogeneous Mac/Windows environment
  • Associate's degree from a two-year college or university or equivalent combination of training, education and experience
Technology Skills and Experience
  • Advanced skills and demonstrable experience in Mac OS X and Apple hardware, including system setup, troubleshooting, command line tools, permissions, and networking
  • Experience supporting common “core” applications typically found in Mac OS environments, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite / Creative Cloud
  • Experience with standard Mac OS management tools (if you are qualified, you know what they are)
  • Experience with at least one Mac OS system image group deployment tool
  • Solid fundamental basic understanding of TCP/IP v4 on both wired and wireless networks
Any of the following will push candidates to the top of the list:
  • One or more of the following OS X Certifications:
    1. Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP)

Senior IT Consultant/Network Engineer

Overview:

Miller Systems, a leading Web Development and IT Consulting firm located in the heart of Boston, a stone's throw from the historic North End and the Boston Garden, is seeking candidates for a Senior IT Consultant/Network Engineer. This full time employee will work in a fast paced environment providing solutions as a technical lead on our IT consulting team. This position is an excellent opportunity for an individual with solid infrastructure and project management skills to work in an exciting environment on a wide variety of projects.

The right candidate will spend a majority of time on-site at our clients’ locations throughout the Metro Boston area. Primary responsibilities will include onsite and remote support and monitoring of client systems, as well as support, maintenance, and controlled growth of our own systems in our headquarters and collocated data center. The Senior IT Consultant will also actively participate in new business meetings with potential new clients.

Technical responsibilities include acting as the technical lead for server / network projects at client sites, performing hands-on implementation and support of network firewalls, servers, and messaging systems.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, organized, and able to work effectively with minimal supervision. IT Consulting Manager

Overview:

Miller Systems, a leading Web Development and IT Consulting firm located in the heart of Boston, a stone's throw from the historic North End and the Boston Garden, is seeking candidates for the position of IT consulting manger. This full time employee will work in a fast paced environment providing solutions as the leader of our IT consulting team and our internal infrastructure manager. This position is an excellent opportunity for an individual with solid infrastructure and team management skills to work in an exciting environment on a wide variety of projects. The position mixes administrative and client management responsibility with the role of technical lead on internal and consulting projects.

The IT consulting manager will spend a majority of time on-site at our clients’ locations throughout the Metro Boston area. Some phone support and in house work are also part of this position. Primary management responsibilities will include the oversight of the IT consulting team staff, account supervision for all IT support clients, and active participation in new business meetings with potential new clients. Primary technical responsibilities will include acting as the technical lead for all server / network projects at client sites, performing hands-on implementation and support of network firewalls, servers, and messaging systems. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the management of Miller Systems’ internal network, hosting environment, and IT support. Some end user support at client sites will also be required.

Applicants must have demonstrated experience managing other technical professionals and client relationships. Additionally, all of the following technical skills are required:

Major Responsibilities/Requirements:

  • Certification as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) in Windows 2000 and/or Windows 2003
A minimum of 3 years supporting mid-sized networks employing the following technologies:
  • Microsoft Active Directory, including AD migrations, DNS integration, and multiple sites / trusts / domain & forest configurations
  • Enterprise firewall technologies, preferably Cisco PIX, in high availability and site to site VPN environments as well as client VPN deployments. While PIX familiarity is critical, additional experience with other firewall vendors (Check Point, Sonicwall, Netscreen) is highly desirable as well.
  • Microsoft Exchange 2000/2003 and third-party virus / spam prevention solutions
  • Microsoft Internet Information Server, including SSL certificates, application servers, and general web-hosting best practices
  • General configuration and troubleshooting of TCP/IP networks, DNS, SMTP servers, and web servers
  • Basic configuration of Cisco router hardware and IOS software, including IOS upgrades, security, T1 WAN configurations with routing, bridging, and backup interfaces
  • Server load balancing concepts and expertise managing at least one vendor’s load balancing solution. (Cisco Content Services Switch experience preferred; F5 BigIP, Arrowpoint, or Foundry ServerIron also acceptable)
  • Experience deploying and managing enterprise monitoring solutions such as Mercury Interactive SiteScope, Ipswitch WhatsUpGold, or other solutions used to ensure constant uptime of network infrastructure
  • Backup solutions using Vertias products and a variety of tape storage media
